Politics pertains to the activities being undertaken by certain individuals in order to obtain positions of power within a large organization. These actions to gain power usually happen within a governing body of a country. However, as people are usually involved in a power struggle, politics can also be observed within company departments, or even in an academic setting.

It is important to study politics, especially politics that are relevant to the government or organization to which an individual belongs. The following are just a few of the reasons why the study of politics is important:

1. To help an individual understand the various factors and consequences that drive decisions in a political environment in order to take a stand for the right issues.
2. To understand how individuals strive to attain power and their motivations to do so in order to support the right people.
3. To be more aware of how policies are made in a political organization and what issues are being addressed by these actions.
